Tokyo Paralympics: Mangliwan sets personal best, misses podium

MANILA, Philippines—Jerrold Mangliwan missed out on the podium but set a personal best in the men’s 1,500-meter final of the Tokyo Paralympic Games Sunday at the Olympic Stadium.
Clocking 3:58.24, Mangliwan finished sixth and in the process set his personal mark in the event.

Japan’s Sato Tomoki captured not only the gold medal but also shattered the Paralympic record with a time of 3:29.13, beating the previous mark of 3:40.63 that Raymond Martin set in 2016 in Rio de Janeiro.
Martin captured silver in Tokyo clocking in at 3:29.72 which is his personal best and a new Americas record.
Japan’s Ueyonabaru Hirokazu settled for the bronze with a personal best time of 3:44.17.
Thomas Geierspichler of Austria came in at fourth registering 3:54.77 while Leonard De Jesus Perez Juarez of Mexico was at fifth with a time of 3:54.82.
The United States’ Isaiah Rigo was in seventh at 3:59.42.
