BREAKING: 2 dead as hostage incident in Marikina City’s BJMP facility ends in shootout
MANILA, Philippines — A hostage drama in Marikina City’s Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) facility ended in a shootout Thursday, leaving two people dead.

BJMP spokesperson Jail Chief Insp. Xavier Solda confirmed this to reporters, even describing the two fatalities as persons deprived of liberty or PDLs, who allegedly managed to grab the firearm of a jail staff.
Solda said an investigation is ongoing.

“I can confirm that 2 PDLs died matapos nilang mang-agaw ng firearm sa BJMP personnel natin,” he said.
