Government Offers Up To P1-M Reward to Anyone Who Can Report Social Media Influencers Evading Taxes

Ex-Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) examiner Mon Abrea said that P million rewards awaits informants who can report social media influencers evading

Last week, the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) Commissioner Caesar Dulay released the Revenue Memorandum Circular (RMC) No. 97-2021 reminding the social media influencers to pay their

taxes

.

The RMC No. 97-2021 covers the influencers in various social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Twitter, YouTube and other platforms promoting products and services.


The agency issued the memorandum after receiving reports that some influencers have not been paying their income taxes despite earning huge amount of cash. Some of them are not registered with the BIR.

Violators could face six to ten years imprisonment and would be charged a fine worth P500, 000, P10 million, P30, 000 and P100, 000.

Tax expert and former Bureau of Internal Revenue examiner Mon Abrea said that anyone who would give information regarding social media influencers who were not paying taxes would receive a reward from the government.

Abrea said.

Abrea said vloggers should be registered to BIR so the agency could easily trace them. He said that the agency would base on tax identification number or known as TIN ID. BIR would not tolerate tax evaders.
