Beauty’s advice to Derek about her BFF Ellen

To change or to be chained to our usual routine is a choice we all have to make at some point in our lives. A comfort zone can turn into a danger zone if it lulls us into complacency and stunts our growth.

That’s why Beauty Gonzalez has decided to make a bold move by switching from being a Kapamilya to a Kapuso. Her first project for GMA 7 is “Stories from the Heart: Loving Ms. Bridgitte.”

Aside from the new chapter in her career, Beauty is also starting another phase in her personal life. After four years, she has made peace with her mom when she went home to Dumaguete. All is well in her world. Presenting Beauty and the beast… este her newfound bliss.

Here’s my chat with Beauty:

Tell us about your upcoming show.

It’s a timely tale about healing and growth. It explores roles put on us by society and how two people find happiness amidst challenges.

In accepting an offer, do you consider the role or the talent fee first?

The role is paramount. Apart from being well-written and hopefully intelligent, it must suit my skills, appearance and core values. For example, I cannot do any sexy role that I would be ashamed for my daughter to see.

In my mind, I must be capable to give the character justice—I cannot force myself to do a role na pilit or trying hard for me. The role and its merits would be my primary consideration. Having said that, I also know my worth, so I have to consider if the production has the funds and capacity to not only finish a project, but also to make it beautiful and marketable.

Since you are the bestie of Ellen, what advice would you give Derek on how to handle her?

My advice: “Just be there for her, hold her when she’s down, then lift her up any chance you get. It’s in those quiet times, between ups and downs, when you will discover her full glory, and you will be happy.”

If your life story will be made into a teleserye, what will the title be, and who do you want to portray you?

It’s still an ongoing story, so it’s not yet teleserye- or movie-worthy, but I’m working on it. Making each day as colorful and interesting as I can. Monica Bellucci can play the older me (laughs).

Here’s my chat with Jayda:

Since there’s no live audience in a digital concert, won’t it give you lesser satisfaction because there’s no instant gratification in the form of applause?

It’s definitely going to be a bit of an adjustment for me; doing a full set without an audience to feed off of. But my digital concert gives me a chance to make the show feel more intimate since it’ll be like I’m singing to specific viewers, directly to them, into the camera.

What’s your personal anthem these days and why?

It might be cheesy or cliche to mention my own song that I’ve written: “M.U. (Malabong Usapan),” but it really is my personal anthem at the moment. It speaks to me a lot at this point in my life because of its prevalent themes of self-empowerment, not settling for less, and guarding your heart, which are things I’ve been instilling in myself.

What will it take for a guy to be your boyfriend?

He has to be someone who’ll truly be proud of me and my accomplishments. Someone who’ll stand by me and be genuinely happy for me, throughout my journey. He’d also have to know how to build proper relationships with my loved ones, especially my parents.

I like a guy who knows what he wants in life, has real sense of direction and security, and most of all, values communication as much as I do and is willing to put in the effort needed in that.
