Sandra Cam in hospital surrenders to police

PHILIPPINE Charity Sweepstakes Office (PCSO) Board Member Sandra Cam, a suspect in the murder of vice mayor Charlie Yuson 3rd of Batuan, Masbate in 2019, has surrendered, the Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (PNP-CIDG) in Cavite said on Thursday.

Lt. Col. Joseph Tan Nandu Jr. of the provincial police confirmed to The Manila Times that on Wednesday night, Cam disclosed that she was at the Dela Salle University Medical Center in Dasmarinas where she was being treated for a debilitating condition in her spinal cord.

Nandu said Cam was with her two lawyers, a helper and a doctor.

Nandu said Cam decided to face the frustrated murder charges that the Department of Justice (DoJ) and National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) had filed against her.

Police said Cam was mum on the whereabouts of her son, Marco Martin, and five others linked to the killing.

The PNP-CIDG in Cavite requested for an independent medical examination on Cam following her surrender.

A manhunt operation against Marco Martin and his alleged accomplices are underway, Nandu said.

Yuson’s family had linked the Cams to the vice mayor’s death after Yuson’s son, Charmax Jan, defeated Martin in the Batuan mayoralty race in 2019.

Cam denied the allegations.
