Health Secretary Francisco Duque 3rd has proposed that the National Capital Region and nearby provinces remain under Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine to further decongest hospitals.

He made the suggestion as the country inched closer to hitting the one million  Covid-19 mark.

In an interview on cable news channel ABS-CBN Teleradyo, Duque said that while the Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases’s sub-technical working group on data analytics has yet to make its recommendations, he favors the extension of MECQ for two weeks because hospital capacity remained high.

“Yung ating health systems capacity, hindi pa rin masyadong nag-iimprove, patuloy pa rin yung ilang syudadmay critical risk classification ang kanilang ICU (intensive care unit) capacity, (Our health systems capacity has not yet improved, there are cities whose ICU capacity remain critical),” Duque said.

While cases have slowly decreased in the “bubble area” that is comprised of Metro Manila and the provinces of Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna and Rizal, the average daily attack rate in the past two weeks continued to be high.
