Magnitude 5.1 quake jolts Davao Occidental

A magnitude 5.1 earthquake jolted Davao Occidental early Wednesday morning, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).

The quake occurred at about 4:08 a.m. with the epicenter at 98 kilometers southeast of the town of Jose Abad Santos, Phivolcs chief Renato Solidum told The Manila Times.

He said it had a depth of 116kms and was tectonic in origin.

Instrumental intensity 1 was recorded in General Santos City and Koronadal City, South Cotabato; and Alabel and Kiamba, Sarangani.

Solidum said no damage was expected from the quake, as well as tsunami threat but aftershocks were expected.
