PNP allocates more beds in makeshift COVID-19 facilities inside Camp Crame

MANILA, Philippines—The Philippine National Police has increased the capacity of its quarantine facilities in its headquarters in Camp Crame to treat police personnel who have contracted COVID-19.

As per its official Facebook account, the entire compound of the Kiangan Billeting and Transient Quarters and its sports facilities have been reconfigured to be used as quarantine facilities with a 55-bed capacity.

“It is not true and unfair to speculate that our policemen are not being taken care of,” said PNP Chief Police General Debold Sinas Saturday.

Police Brigadier General Luisito Magnaye, Director of the PNP Health Service, said the increase of positive COVID-19 cases among police personnel was unexpected with those who’ve contracted the virus also bringing their family members, who were also infected, into the facility

Local government units have also used the PNP’s quarantine site in Camp Crame.

Camp Crame’s poolside pavilion and tennis court have been converted into a temporary holding area with an 80-bed capacity where PNP doctors assess patients and determine those who need further medical need.

The Directorate for Logistics recently turned over 57 more beds in the same compound that covers the tennis court while 40 more beds were placed at the taekwondo gym.

These sporting facilities are being used to temporarily house asymptomatic patients.

Magnaye said that once patients are tested, PNP ambulances individually transport those who are asymptomatic to the Philippine International Convention Center, ULTRA, Nice Hotel, or to various local government facilities in Metro Manila or in Clark in Pampanga.

Symptomatic patients are brought to the National Capital Region Police Office, to the Southern Police District, and to any available government hospitals.
