46 more quakes recorded around Mt. Pinatubo — Phivolcs

BOTOLAN, Zambales –– At least 46 volcanic earthquakes were recorded around Mt. Pinatubo since Tuesday morning, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

In its 8 a.m. bulletin on Wednesday, Phivolcs said Alert Level 1 remained hoisted over the volcano due to its low-level unrest.

The seismic activities within the last 24 hours were related to tectonic processes beneath the volcano’s edifice, but no imminent eruption was expected, it said.

State volcanologists reiterated their warning against entering into the Pinatubo crater.

Phivolcs also advised communities near Pinatubo to prepare for more earthquakes and possible volcanic hazards.

Since Jan. 30, Phivolcs has recorded over 1,700 “imperceptible” or not easily noticed earthquakes around the volcano. INQ
