SC junks petition vs govt withdrawal from ICC

THE Supreme Court on Tuesday junked several petitions questioning President Rodrigo Duterte’s decision to withdraw Philippine membership from the International Criminal Court (ICC) without the concurrence of the Senate, according to Manila Times sources.

Sources privy to the ruling said the en banc, in a unanimous decision, acknowledged the petition as moot because the Philippines had pulled out of the ICC.

The petitioners were opposition Senators Francis Pangilinan, Franklin Drilon, and Risa Hontiveros; and former senators Benigno “Bam” Aquino 4th and Antonio Trillanes 4th; and the Philippine Coalition for the International Criminal Courts (PCICC).

It was docketed under GR. 238875 vs then Foreign Affairs secretary Alan Peter Cayetano, Executive Secretary Salvador Medialdea and Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr.
