MANILA, Philippines — Four-division champion Donnie Nietes is set to make his long-awaited ring return against Pablo Carrillo of Colombia on April 3 at Caesars Palace Bluewaters in Dubai.

Nietes hasn’t fought since Dec. 31, 2018 when he beat Japan’s Kazuto Ioka to win the vacant WBO super flyweight title in Macau.

Nietes, however, opted to vacate the belt after he chose not to do a rematch with compatriot Aston Palicte and instead set his sights on other champions in the division. The two battled to a controversial split draw back in September 2018.

Last October, Nietes signed with MTK Global and D4G Promotions two months after ALA Boxing closed shop.

The 38-year-old Nietes (42-1-5, 23 KOs) hopes to continue what he started by beating Carrillo (25-7-1, 16 KOs) for the vacant WBO International super flyweight title.

Carrillo, who is ranked No. 8 by the WBA, last fought in August 2019 beating Luis Golindano.
