MANILA, Philippines — A low pressure area (LPA) and the tail-end of a frontal system may trigger light to moderate rains over Southern Luzon on Monday, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

Pagasa on Monday morning said the LPA was last spotted 15 kilometers north of Cuyo, Palawan.

Yung Southern Luzon po natin, basically cloudy siya o maulap at mataas ang tsansa ng light to moderate rains dahil sa epekto ng LPA at maging ng tail-end end of a frontal system,” Pagasa weather specialist Loriedin dela Cruz said.

(Southern Luzon will have cloudy skies and will likely experience light to moderate rains due to the LPA and the tail-end of a frontal system.)

The tail-end of a frontal system is where cold winds from the northeast monsoon and the easterlies or warm winds from the Pacific Ocean converge.

According to Pagasa’s forecast, Mimaropa (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan) Bicol region, Calabarzon (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon), Eastern Visayas and Panay Island will have cloudy skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms.

Meanwhile, the northeast monsoon or “amihan” is affecting the weather condition in  Northern Luzon and the eastern section of Central Luzon.

Pagasa said the northeast monsoon will bring cloudy skies with light rains in Cagayan Valley, and Aurora, and partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains in Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon.

Mindanao and the rest of Visayas, on the other hand, will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to localized thunderstorms.
