PH tallies record-high 3,749 new Covid infections

THE Philippines has logged 3,749 new cases of coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) in the country, a record high since Sept. 19, 2020, when 3,924 infections were recorded.

The latest figure puts the total number of Covid infections to 607,048.

The country also logged a total of 3,613 out of 32,849 samples that tested positive based on data from all but four Covid-19 laboratories, pushing the overall positivity rate to 11 percent.

Despite the increase, more than 96 percent of the 47,769 active cases remain mild, moderate and asymptomatic, while the rest remain severe and critical.

Total recoveries are at 546,671, with the addition of 406 survivors, while 63 more died for a total of 12,608 fatalities.

The country’s hospital bed capacity remains from low to medium risk, with 55 percent intensive care beds, 63 percent isolation beds, 72 percent ward beds and 74 percent ventilators available to Covid-19 patients.
