Meralco cuts power rates for 2nd straight month

FOR the second straight month, Manila Electric Co. (Meralco) announced on Tuesday a decrease of P0.3598 per kilowatt hour (kWh) for March.

This brings the overall rates to P8.3195 per kWh from P8.6793 per kWh in February.

“This month’s rate is the lowest since August 2017,” said the country’s largest power distributor in a statement.

Households that consume 200 kWh will see a drop of P71.96 in their monthly bill. Those with 300-kWh consumption can expect a decrease of P107.94; those with 400 kWh, P143.92; and those with 500 kWh, P179.90.

The power company had hinted at a lower electricity charge due to lower generation charge and the two-year refund order of the Energy Regulatory Commission.
